With a bicycle you participate

The Bicycle Project "With a bicycle you participate!" aims to use bicycles to support people living at or below the poverty line.

Every year, about 1 million bicycles are discarded and left for waste. At the same time, more and more families experience mobility poverty, hindering their social participation and access to employment, for example.
A bicycle makes a difference. With a bicycle, you participate! That is why Huis van Compassie Nijmegen supports low-income people with a bicycle.

BIKE DONATION

Got a bike to spare? Then donate it!

Unfortunately, having your own bike is not a given for everyone. And yet it is the very difference maker for people living on a limited income. People in poverty live in long-term stress. Exercise and outdoor air are an effective remedy against this and contribute to good physical and mental resilience. Cycling is healthy, cycling relaxes, cycling takes you literally and figuratively from A to B. And thus to meetings, support, education and work. So a bicycle contributes to mobility happiness. The bicycle project 'Met een fiets doe je mee' (With a bicycle you participate) therefore collects used bicycles, refurbishes them and makes sure they get to people in poverty who do not have their own bicycle. By donating your bicycle, you enlarge the world of someone in poverty. Cycling to school, the sports club or friends becomes possible again.

You can donate your bike in two ways: hand it in at a BikeDonation Point or have it collected.

I return the bike myself!

We are greatly helped if you choose to hand in the bike(s) yourself at one of our Bike Donation Points. These are the Bicycle Donation Points:

I would rather have the bike collected anyway.

That’s also an option. If you’d like to donate a bicycle but are unable to drop it off at one of our bicycle donation points, you can donate it via the ANWB Children’s Bicycle Scheme, with which Huis van Compassie has a partnership. Volunteers from the ANWB will come and collect the bicycle(s) from your home.

You can easily register your bike using the registration form on the ANWB website.
Under ‘Where did you hear about the ANWB Children’s Bicycle Scheme?’, you can select ‘Other, namely via Huis van Compassie’.
Under ‘Any other comments’, you can indicate, if you wish, that you would like the bicycle(s) to benefit the ‘Met een fiets doe je mee’ cycling project.

Once you have submitted the form, you will receive an email from the ANWB with all the details about the collection. The volunteers will do their utmost to visit you within ten weeks.
