The Bicycle Project's bicycle workshop: 'With a bicycle, you participate' is located in the Fietscentrum Nijmegen at Weurtseweg 154/156. This Fietscentrum will open its doors for a festive kickoff on Saturday, April 20.
The Fietscentrum Nijmegen is a collective building with various bicycle-related projects and businesses including:

  • Bicycle project: 'Met een fiets doe je mee' of Huis van Compassie Nijmegen that collects, repairs and gives out unused bicycles to people who would like a bicycle but cannot afford one.
  • Stip children's bikes: The specialist in (lightweight) children's bikes.
  • Fissa Bike: The FissaFiets is a mobile DJ Bakfiets with professional DJs who will make any event a success.
  • Loendersloot Consultancy: Advice and project supervision in the field of traffic and mobility.
  • Cycling out of Poverty Foundation (CooP-Africa): CooP-Africa is a foundation that supports children, health workers, farmers and small entrepreneurs in Africa with cycling and works to promote cycling climate in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The festive kickoff is dedicated to connection and participation through cycling. This open day is an excellent opportunity for Nijmegen residents to explore the new center, get to know the various cycling organizations and enjoy various activities.

What is the program?

  • 10.15 - 11.00 Bicycle parade: At 10.30 depart for a bicycle parade through Nijmegen-West with bicycles decorated in the Nijmegen N.E.C. colors (Red, Black and Green). We invite young and old to ride along. Upon return at 11.00 we will hand out a nice prize to the most beautiful Red, Black and Green bike.
  • 11.00 Official Opening: Around 11.00 there will be an official opening of the Bicycle Center Nijmegen by Alderman Brom.
  • 11.15 - 12.00 Bicycle Street Masterclass: Mini masterclass and knowledge exchange on bicycle streets and other great examples of bicycle-inclusive planning in the Netherlands with a delegation from Uganda and Germany, among others.
  • 11.15 - 16.00 Tinkering with bicycles: Make free use of the bicycle hooks of the Bicycle Project: 'With a bicycle you participate' and wrench your own bicycle or help the volunteers to prepare bicycles for minima in Nijmegen.
  • 11:15 - 15:00 Adult Cycling Lessons: Nice introduction to cycling lessons for adults. The Bicycle Project: 'With a bicycle you participate' raffles 10x 12 bicycle lessons worth € 40 for those interested.
  • 11.15 - 16.00 Children's bike course: Stip-kinderfietsen will provide a children's bike course with the cooperation of Veilig Verkeer Nederland where children can learn traffic rules in an accessible way. There is plenty of room for children to learn how to cycle.

There will be a bouncy castle, coffee, tea, lemonade with something tasty and between 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. a soupie. The day will be musically enlivened by FissaFiets, the mobile DJ cargo bike for all events.
